Vice President Opoku-Agyemang resting in UK, set to resume duties soon — Government

Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is in good health. She is currently resting abroad on medical advice, according to government officials.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, provided updates during an interview on Channel One TV. He reassured Ghanaians that the Vice President is recovering well. She is expected to return to her official duties soon.

“She is taking a short rest as advised by her doctors,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said. “She is in the United Kingdom right now,” he added.

His comments support earlier statements from Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Mr. Ablakwa also aimed to dispel rumors about the Vice President's health.

While speaking to Ghanaians in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 6, he condemned what he called malicious misinformation.

“Some fears exist about our mother, the first female vice president,” he said. “I assure you she is doing very well.” He thanked Ghanaians for their prayers and support.

“I have heard from her directly and know she’s doing well,” he added confidently.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang fell ill after official duties on March 28. She was treated at the University of Ghana Medical Centre before being flown abroad for further care. Following this, social media spread unverified claims about her health that officials now say are false and politically motivated.

“Please ignore all vicious propaganda circulating online,” Mr. Ablakwa urged. “Our mother is doing very well and will soon return to serve Ghana.”

He emphasized that she inspires young girls and shows that women can achieve anything men can do—and even better.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang's return is expected soon as officials encourage calm and unity among the public. They urge everyone to focus on facts rather than speculation.
