Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has returned to Ghana. She was in London, United Kingdom, recovering from an illness. This illness kept her away from public duties for several weeks.
Her arrival at Kotoka International Airport was warmly received. President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama welcomed her. They were joined by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson. The Vice President’s Chief of Staff Alex Segbefia and other officials were also present.
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church and family members attended as well.
President Mahama confirmed her return during his "Thank You Tour" in Dodowa, Greater Accra Region, on May 16.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang fell ill on March 28, 2025. She was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) the next day for treatment. On medical advice, she began a three-week medical leave on April 7. She traveled abroad for further care as a precaution.
In her brief remarks, the Vice President thanked Ghanaians for their prayers. She expressed appreciation to her doctors and the staff at UGMC. She also celebrated President Mahama and his brother Ibrahim for their support and care.
