Maaha Beach Resort experienced a severe fire on Wednesday evening, May 28, 2025.
The fire destroyed several beachfront structures. This included accommodations near the main pool area. Reports indicate the fire began around 7 p.m. in the kitchen of Vision Beach. It then spread to parts of Maaha Beach Resort.
Maaha Beach Resort is a popular destination in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region. An eyewitness stated that the fire tender from Atuabo Gas Processing Plant could not extinguish the blaze quickly.
She explained, “The fire didn’t start from our end but from Vision Beach.” It started in their kitchen and spread through their front desk before reaching Maaha. The Ghana Gas fire tender was passing by when it started but could not assist due to chemical concerns.
The delay from Atuabo's fire tender led them to call for help from Axim and nearby areas. She added, “So we called the personal assistant of the MP to call Axim and other tenders.”
A video captured the scene as Maaha Beach Resort was engulfed in flames. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
