President John Dramani Mahama praised businesses that lowered prices after the cedi's gain.
At the 9th Ghana CEO Summit and Awards Expo, he commended Orca Décor, GPRTU, and others for their price adjustments.
Mahama urged other businesses to also reduce prices. He encouraged them to share some of the cedi appreciation with Ghanaians.
He stated, “Let me commend those who have responded by reducing prices.” He thanked GPRTU specifically for their efforts.
Mahama assured that his government would maintain recent cedi gains. He emphasized fiscal discipline and a supportive environment for businesses.
Dr. Johnson Asiamah, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, spoke at the event as well. He dismissed claims that the Central Bank is manipulating exchange rates.
Asiamah noted that the Central Bank is not using international reserves to support the cedi. The cedi has appreciated by 24.1%, according to him.
He explained that this appreciation results from disciplined monetary policy and improved remittance flows. It reflects structural changes aimed at long-term stability in the currency market.
Asiamah added, “Our Cedi has appreciated by 24.1% against the US dollar.” He reiterated that this is a market-driven process, not artificially engineered.
These measures are designed for sustainable growth in Ghana’s economy.
