The Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s (AMA) decongestion team found an illegal brothel. It is called ‘Lucifer’s Village’ and is near Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
Reports indicate that Lucifer’s Village has many illegal structures. These include brothels, bars, and eateries built over a large drain.
Joseph Asitanga, an Environmental Health Officer, led the operation for the AMA. He stated that the area poses serious public health and safety risks.
Asitanga noted that these structures are unauthorized. They threaten both residents and visitors in the area.
Preliminary surveys show that many occupants are foreign nationals. Most are Nigerians and Togolese without permits to operate businesses in Ghana.
Asitanga told the media, “These structures are built directly on top of a major gutter.” He added that there are unregulated pubs and brothels, which are extremely dangerous.
The area is also known for immoral and criminal activities. The AMA plans to demolish structures at ‘Lucifer’s Village’ to protect drainage systems.
On May 20, 2025, the AMA began a major decongestion exercise. Task forces worked with the Ghana Police Service during this operation.
They dismantled makeshift stalls and unauthorized kiosks across key areas in the Central Business District.
On day two of the operation, they focused on Kwame Nkrumah Circle and nearby locations.
This two-week effort aims to enforce city bylaws, reduce congestion, and ensure safe movement for pedestrians and vehicles.
