Video – Mahama attends AfDB meeting in Cote d’Ivoire onboard Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet

A video has emerged showing President John Dramani Mahama arriving in Côte d'Ivoire. He traveled on a private jet owned by his brother, Ibrahim Mahama. The jet is named "Dzata."

Months ago, Ghanaians speculated about Mahama using this jet for a trip to The Gambia. He faced criticism for this choice, but government officials defended it. They claimed it was cost-saving and timely for the state.

The viral video shows the jet landing in Abidjan. President Mahama disembarked and was greeted with a red carpet. He arrived to attend the 60th Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank.

A key focus of this meeting is electing a new president. Dr. Akinwumi Adesina is ending his second five-year term and cannot run again. The meetings are scheduled from May 26 to 30, 2025.

Mahama was accompanied by his Executive Secretary, Dr. Callistus Mahama, and Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe. Ivorian Transport Minister Kone Amadou welcomed him at the airport. The meeting's theme is “Making Africa’s Capital Work Better for Africa’s Development.”

Former President Akufo-Addo had planned to acquire a new presidential jet before leaving office. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah criticized the previous NPP administration's management of the official presidential jet.

He claimed significant damage occurred, including corrosion of its fuel tank. His comments followed NPP questioning why Vice President Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman did not use first-class or business tickets for her return flight.

The NPP accused the presidency of causing financial loss by chartering a private jet from London to Accra for the vice president. Omane Boamah stated that Akufo-Addo’s administration neglected the presidential jet.

He noted that it has been abroad for maintenance and may be usable after three months of repairs. Currently, he said, it is unfit for use.
