President John Dramani Mahama shared a funny memory from his past. He talked about his reaction to the enthronement of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
This happened during a visit by the Asantehene to Jubilee House on June 2. President Mahama recalled hearing that Nana Osei Tutu II was chosen as the new Otumfuo. This followed the death of Otumfuo Opoku Ware II.
"When I became a minister, they enstooled Nana Osei Tutu II," he said. "I thought, ‘But this is Aduhene from Sefwi. Can someone from Sefwi be Asantehene?’” He smiled as he remembered this moment.
President Mahama felt puzzled until Otumfuo explained his lineage and connection. “Then Nana told me a story that made it clear,” he said. “His uncle had sent him to the Aduhene’s palace to be groomed as a king.”
