A video has emerged of Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson. He took his oath while vying to become the next Pope. He missed being elected as the 267th Pope.
The viral video shows Cardinal Turkson during the procession to the chapel. He spoke in Latin with his hand on the Book of Gospels.
Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson is the Chancellor of two Pontifical Academies. These are the Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Social Sciences.
From 1992 to 2009, he was the Archbishop of Cape Coast. In 2003, Pope John Paul II made him a cardinal, making him Ghana’s first cardinal.
At 76 years old, Cardinal Turkson has held many key Vatican positions. He was the first Prefect for Integral Human Development and former President of Justice and Peace.
He also served as Treasurer for SECAM and participated in various Vatican bodies. These include Methodist-Catholic Dialogue since 1997 and promoting Christian unity since 2002.
Meanwhile, Cardinals gathered in the Sistine Chapel elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as Pope Leo XIV. The American was elected on May 8 during the conclave's first full day.
