A disturbing video has surfaced showing galamsey operators mining in homes. This incident occurred in Bibiani Old Town, located in the Western North Region.
The viral video was shared on X. It shows people digging and gathering sand in sacks near a resident's home. An excavator was also seen at the busy scene.
The Mahama-led NDC government is working to combat illegal mining. However, these bold individuals continue their activities without concern for consequences or authorities.
President John Mahama addressed this issue during his May Day speech. He expressed confidence that the Armed Forces and security services will succeed against illegal miners. He stated, “As far as the fight against galamsey is concerned, I say Aluta Continua.”
Many Ghanaians reacted to the viral video online. One user noted that locals watch these activities but later blame leaders for problems. Another commented on how communities engage with chiefs yet still criticize the government.
One netizen suggested not to blame the miners entirely. They pointed out years of neglect by past governments and lack of basic amenities like water and jobs. Another user questioned why there are no police stations or local officials addressing this issue.
