Construction of Ho Bypass Dual Carriageway Resumes to Ease Traffic Woes
Construction work has resumed on the Ho bypass dual carriageway. This brings hope to residents and commuters in the Volta Region. The 10.5-kilometre project aims to ease traffic in Ho and improve road safety.
Community members are optimistic but want timely completion and transparency. The bypass will reroute heavy traffic, especially commercial trucks, away from the city center. It stretches from Sokode Etoe Roundabout to the Ho-Denu highway at Ipalco.
Local residents welcome this development as a long-overdue solution. The contractor is back on site, with construction expected to alleviate traffic issues.
The planned route passes by important areas like the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and Ho Technical University. Residents believe it will enhance travel and boost economic activities.
Yaw Obeng, a commercial driver, expressed his frustration with current traffic: “Getting stuck in town wastes time and fuel.” He believes the bypass will change everything if done properly.
The construction includes dual carriageways, drainage systems, pedestrian walkways, street lighting, and a new roundabout at Mirage intersection. Madam Esi Dabla, an entrepreneur near Ho Technical University, hopes for increased foot traffic once construction progresses.
However, past delays have caused skepticism among residents. The project began in 2016 but faced financial constraints that halted progress. Limited advancements were made before momentum was lost.
Youth activist Bright Kwabla stressed the need for continuity: “Good roads mean safer travel and more jobs.” He emphasized that this issue transcends politics; it’s about their future.
With machinery clearing the road corridor now, stakeholders seek more transparency and regular updates. Richmond Kporha, another local driver, shared community hopes: “It’s not just a road; it’s about faster ambulances and better business.”
Residents expect not only pavement but real progress as well. The government fully funds the bypass project, which is scheduled for completion in 24 months.
In April 2025, YEN.com.gh reported mixed feelings about Dr. Archibald Letsa's legacy as Volta Regional Minister under Akufo-Addo's administration. Some praised his achievements in border security while others criticized his shortcomings during his tenure.
Dr. Letsa credited teamwork for his accomplishments and highlighted key milestones like inaugurating the Volta Regional Audit Office Complex in Ho. He pledged continued support for regional development even after leaving office.
