The Volta Regional branch of the GPRTU has endorsed the government’s plan to reintroduce road tolls, emphasizing the need for proper revenue management to enhance road infrastructure and public safety.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the union’s Public Relations Officer, Awilo Attito, stated that while they welcome the initiative, it must be accompanied by transparent and effective use of funds for road maintenance.
He stressed that toll revenue should be directed toward critical projects, including repairs, speed cameras, street lighting, and emergency response improvements.
The GPRTU also urged the government to provide annual accounts of toll revenue usage and consult transport unions on fare adjustments when fuel prices change.
Drivers in Keta echoed similar sentiments, backing the policy while demanding visible road improvements.
