Volta Lake Corridor tipped as key pillar in Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy agenda

President John Dramani Mahama has prioritized the Volta Lake corridor. He aims to transform it into a national production and logistics zone. This plan is part of his proposed 24-hour Economy policy.

Mahama shared this vision at a meeting at Jubilee House. He stated that the corridor will focus on the Volta Lake and its basin. The goal is to create a national production zone and logistics fund.

The plan includes cultivating over two million hectares of lakeside land. It also aims to revitalize the lake’s fishery sector. Additionally, there will be a network of industrial parks for domestic and regional markets.

Mahama believes the economic potential of Volta Lake is largely untapped. The 24-hour Economy program provides a blueprint to maximize this potential. New floating assets, lake ports, and investment partnerships will be developed with the Volta River Authority (VRA) and private sector.

His vision seeks to enhance Ghana’s productive capacity beyond traditional sectors. It focuses on leveraging geography, innovation, and infrastructure.

Financing will be crucial for the project's success. Mahama noted that the Development Bank of Ghana will support SMEs, cooperatives, and agribusinesses along the value chain.

He emphasized that the 24-hour Economy is more than just a political concept. It represents a national commitment to shared growth, decent jobs, competitive exports, thriving local economies, and long-term prosperity.
