Volta Region Reflects on Dr. Archibald Letsa's Legacy
Residents of the Volta Region have mixed feelings about Dr. Archibald Letsa. He served as the Volta Regional Minister under President Akufo-Addo. Some appreciate his contributions, while others criticize his shortcomings.
Dr. Letsa dealt with border security and regional conflicts during his tenure. These included the Nkonya-Alavanyo conflict and the Western Togoland secession issue. Recently, he reflected on his time in office and thanked stakeholders for their support.
He emphasized teamwork in achieving development goals for the region. One of his key achievements was opening the Volta Regional Audit Office Complex in Ho. This facility aims to improve accountability and transparency in public services.
Dr. Letsa also valued collaboration with the Volta Regional House of Chiefs. He expressed gratitude for their support throughout his term.
Despite challenges, he remains optimistic about the region’s future. He plans to continue contributing to its development even after leaving office.
Community Reactions to Dr. Letsa's Tenure
Residents have shared varied opinions on Dr. Letsa’s legacy, reflecting appreciation and criticism alike. Cofi Costy, a political observer, noted that he worked towards peace in a historically tense region.
However, not everyone agrees with this view. Youth activist Kojo Divine called him “one of the most useless ministers.” Others believe that peace alone does not define a successful ministerial legacy.
Lawson-doe Akorfa Amen stressed that education, healthcare, and infrastructure are crucial measures of success. Michael Dzaba pointed out that some short-term ministers had more impact than Dr. Letsa did over nearly ten years.
Critics also highlighted political tensions during his time in office. Local youth leader Walter Blinks mentioned unaddressed issues like political violence within the party.
Business owner Akpeke Rolex expressed disappointment: “He didn’t uplift the region.” Yet some defended him; civil servant Abotsi Shadrack acknowledged the difficulties he faced.
Controversies Surrounding His Leadership
University student Immanuel Selasi Kwaku Dogbey recalled controversies regarding Dr. Letsa’s comments on local matters and internal party issues. Some questioned whether his role was necessary at all since peace existed before he took office.
Concerns were raised about missed opportunities for development as well. Seth Kpodovia lamented neglected facilities like sports stadiums and libraries needing attention.
Local journalist Jerry Atitsogbui summarized sentiments by saying Dr. Letsa’s tenure felt symbolic rather than impactful.
As he departs from his role, many hope for new leadership in Volta Region that will address pressing issues effectively.
