A tragic accident occurred on Friday, June 6, in Tankokrom, Takoradi. Isaac Bonaray, known as Ike Bonaray, lost his life. He was the morning show host at Max FM in Enchi. The incident happened as residents prepared for the Eid Al-Adha holiday.
Bonaray was run over by a faulty timber truck. The truck was reversing and crashed into a mini-bus (trotro) where he was a passenger. Friends said he had married just a week earlier. He had recently moved into his new home in Apowa with his wife and their two-month-old baby.
Eyewitnesses reported that the timber truck lost control while loaded with lumber. It was heading toward Fijai-Cape Coast when it hit the trotro carrying passengers from Takoradi to Kojokrom.
The trotro driver, Nkansah Kyerematen, described the scene. He said the truck began reversing near the Tanokrom Pipeano Traffic light. To avoid it, he hit the car behind him but could not prevent the collision with the truck.
Passengers panicked and started running away after his mate forced open a door. Kyerematen learned that Bonaray had tried to escape through that door but was tragically run over by the truck.
First responders arrived quickly after being alerted. Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and Police towed away the truck and retrieved Bonaray’s body. His remains were sent to Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue.
Isaac Bonaray was well-known in his community. He served as Chairman of the Aowin Municipal Football Association and was part of the Executive Council of the Western Regional Football Association.
