The Insurance Awareness Coordinators Group (IACG) has launched the Micro and Small Business Clinics (MSBC) in Takoradi. Mr. Wilson Tei, the Chairman of IACG, led this initiative with support from German Development Cooperation (GIZ).
This program aims to educate market traders and artisans about insurance. It highlights insurance as a key tool for managing risks.
The MSBC is a collaboration among several industry stakeholders. These include the National Insurance Commission (NIC), Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), and National Association of Ghana Insurance Agents (NAGIA). The goal is to improve insurance access and financial security for small business owners.
The launch included training for facilitators on April 9 at GNAT Hall in Takoradi. Mr. Kyeame Ghansah, Head of Research at NIC, led the session with support from industry representatives.
Mr. Prince Peter Quayson from GIA spoke during the training. He stressed how important insurance is for protecting livelihoods, especially for vulnerable Micro and Small Businesses.
Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) will take place from April 10 to 16, 2025. These discussions will occur in towns like Takoradi, Axim, Tarkwa, Asankragua, Agona Nkwanta, Kwesimintsim, Wassa, Sehwi Bekwai, Bogoso, and Sefwi Wiawso.
Mr. Ghansah noted that IACG leads insurance awareness campaigns nationwide. The MSBC initiative supports their broader goal of building resilience in the informal sector through education and advocacy.
The MSBC aims to bridge knowledge gaps about insurance products among informal sector workers. This will help more Ghanaians protect themselves from financial shocks.
