A youth group supporting the National Democratic Party has taken action. They have locked up the Western Regional office of the National Service Secretariat.
Their protest is against the transfer of a new Regional Coordinator, Daniel Dawusu. The group believes this appointment does not represent local interests. They insist that the Coordinator should be from the Western Region.
They argue that bringing in an outsider undermines local representation. On April 16, NDC Constituency Youth Organiser Kwabena Afriyie spoke to the media. He stated that they will keep the office shut until their concerns are addressed.
"We have locked up the office," he said. "We’ll lock it up till our demands are met." He urged authorities to withdraw Dawusu and appoint their recommended candidate instead.
Afriyie added, "The person we suggested is qualified for the job." He believes peace will return to the region if their demands are met.
