The Western Central Police Command has arrested 22 people. They are accused of illegal mining, known as 'galamsey'. The arrests took place on April 8, 2025. This was during an operation targeting illegal mining in the region.
The operation focused on areas like Dominase Nkwanta and Adjakaa Manso. Deputy Western Central Regional Commander ACP Bismark Agyapong spoke to journalists. He said the police seized eleven pumping machines and seven shovels. They also found a pickaxe and two changfang machines at various sites.
All suspects are currently in police custody. They are being processed for legal action. The suspects have been brought before the Asankrangwa District Court. They have been remanded to assist with ongoing investigations.
The arrested individuals include Albert Adu Bonsra, 19; Stephen Kwakye, 20; and Richard Atigah, 23. Others are Yaw Menanyi, 19; Al-Mustapha Alidu, 26; and Jutu Francis, 20. Additional names include Hakitu Zibo, Nana Yaw Boakye, Kwesi Evans, Isaac Cobby, and Bashiru Ali.
More suspects are Atta Francis, Ayew Sali, Fataw Gariba, Kwame Emmanuel, and Kwesi Francis. Also included are Abapor Frank, Wasah Moses, Bukari Haruna, Abdulai Lukman, Yeboah Rashid, and Alkainu Hassan.
