W/R: SLB expands healthcare access with new children’s ward in Takoradi

SLB, a global energy technology company, has partnered with WARA. WARA is a leading medical assistance and emergency rescue service in Ghana. Together, they established a children’s ward at Kwesimintsim Government Hospital in Takoradi, Ghana.

The commissioning event took place on April 9, 2025. Representatives from SLB and WARA attended the event along with government officials and community leaders. They celebrated this milestone for pediatric healthcare in the region.

This initiative received support from the Sustainability Impact Awards. This global program was launched by SLB in 2022. It empowers local teams to design impactful sustainability projects for communities. WARA served as medical advisors while SLB handled the construction of the 20-bed ward.

Julia Gridasova, Ghana Country Manager at SLB, stated that sustainability goes beyond operations. She emphasized their commitment to enhancing healthcare access and supporting local development.

Abednego Akuteck, Country Manager at WARA, highlighted their dedication to comprehensive healthcare services. He noted that this new children's ward aligns perfectly with their objectives. The collaboration aims to improve pediatric care and address healthcare gaps in the area.

According to the UN IGME Report 2023, children face unequal survival chances based on various factors. In 2023, there were 4.9 million deaths among children under five years old. Nearly half of these deaths were newborns.

Additionally, 2.1 million deaths occurred among youth aged 5-24 years old. Most of these deaths were reported in sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia. The new ward will provide essential healthcare services to local children.

SLB's broader social investment strategy addresses local challenges while advancing UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Beyond Ghana, SLB invests in transformative healthcare initiatives across Africa.

In January 2025, SLB partnered with ONE Campaign to install solar inverters in Nigeria's healthcare centers. This project provides reliable renewable energy for uninterrupted patient care where energy access is limited.

SLB plans further investments in transformative projects that strengthen community resilience and well-being in West Africa. As a global technology company, SLB drives energy innovation for a balanced planet.

WARA operates high-standard medical services within Greater Accra region, Kumasi, and Takoradi since its founding in 2005.
