WAANSA Ghana links rising conflicts to easy access to small arms

The West African Network for Peacebuilding (WAANSA) Ghana has identified the increasing accessibility of small arms as a significant factor contributing to rising conflicts in the country. During a recent workshop, the organization emphasized that the proliferation of these weapons exacerbates tensions and violence within communities. Members highlighted that unregulated access to firearms not only heightens security threats but also impedes peacebuilding efforts in various regions.

Moreover, WAANSA Ghana called for a collaborative approach among stakeholders, including government bodies and civil society organizations, to address this pressing issue. They urged for stricter regulations on firearms and better public awareness campaigns to educate citizens about the dangers associated with small arms proliferation. The organization believes that tackling these challenges is essential for fostering lasting peace and stability in Ghana and beyond. Efforts must be intensified to ensure that communities are safe from armed conflicts fueled by easily accessible weapons.
