The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is fighting examination malpractice. Cheaters are using advanced technology to deceive the system.
With the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) approaching, WAEC is worried. Reports indicate that entire schools may be involved in cheating schemes.
These unethical practices threaten the credibility of the examination process. They often involve students, school authorities, and trusted stakeholders.
To tackle this issue, WAEC held a high-level meeting with education sector leaders. The goal is to create effective strategies for the future.
John Kapi, WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, noted the seriousness of this challenge. He said, “Examination malpractice is on the rise. In this ICT era, it’s hard to combat.”
He added that WAEC has made efforts to control it. If left unchecked, it could worsen. Therefore, they organized this engagement to share expertise within education.
WAEC believes maintaining exam integrity requires collective action from everyone in education.
