The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has called on the government to urgently release GH¢110.46 million to finalize the post-examination processes for the 2024 WASSCE results.
This amount, part of a total GH¢186.44 million required, covers marking, invigilators’ fees, and the release of results.
So far, the government has paid GH¢75.98 million, leaving an outstanding debt of GH¢150.93 million, which includes arrears from 2022 and 2023.
WAEC warns that examiners may delay marking scripts over unpaid fees, potentially disrupting the academic calendar.
The council highlights challenges from delayed payments, including increased examination costs, exchange rate losses, and weakened measures against malpractice.
Marking is set to conclude by November 29, 2024.
