Wa Circuit Court jails notorious armed robber for 18 years

The Upper West Regional Police Command has made a significant breakthrough. They convicted a notorious armed robber named Adinan Mahmoud, also known as "Okra." He received an 18-year prison sentence with hard labor.

A statement from the Ghana Police Service confirmed this news. Okra, 25, was arrested on May 31, 2025. Police caught him during a high-risk operation in Sandemuni, Wa Municipality. He had been wanted for several violent robberies in the region.

Okra appeared in the Wa Circuit Court on June 2, 2025. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy and robbery. Judge Jonathan Avogo sentenced him to 18 years in prison.

Two alleged accomplices were also involved: Abdulai Ibrahim, known as "Baba," and Abdulai Kipo. They pleaded not guilty and are now in custody. Their trial will continue on June 3, 2025.

Police believe this conviction helps restore public trust and improve security. ASP Michael Toya stated that removing Okra from the streets brings relief to residents. They can now feel safer in their communities.

The police command is committed to tracking down criminals. They urge the public to help dismantle robbery syndicates for long-term peace. The statement emphasized their determination to bring all threats to justice in the region.
