Two men have been sentenced to five years in prison. They will serve hard labor for stealing a firearm and ammunition. The items belonged to an immigration officer in Walewale.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed the conviction on May 23, 2025. The convicts are Mustapha Basit, 18, and Baba Rasid, 22. They were charged with conspiracy to steal and stealing.
They appeared before the Walewale Circuit Court on May 22, 2025. Both men pleaded guilty to the charges. Justice Francis Asobayeri presided over the case and sentenced them.
Investigations showed that on May 17, 2025, they entered the officer's room. This happened while he was not present. They stole a Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition.
They also took two CZ rifle magazines, each loaded with thirty rounds. The Ghana Police Service is working to transport the convicts to prison facilities soon.
