Former President John Agyekum Kufuor and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II shared a story about an old woman. She was arrested by soldiers during President Jerry John Rawlings' military rule.
Rawlings launched an operation to stop the hoarding of essential goods. Kufuor recounted that soldiers searched the woman's home in Kumasi. They discovered drinks hidden under her bed.
Kufuor explained, “The soldiers were looking for hidden commodities. They found a popular beverage called EC Africa.” They interrogated the woman about how she obtained it and why she was hoarding it.
Otumfuo confirmed Kufuor’s story. He noted that the incident occurred in 1979. The beverage was well-known in Africa, making her case significant. The woman was arrested for not explaining her actions properly.
