A video has emerged showing a meeting involving Thaddeus Sory. He is a lawyer for one of the petitioners in the Chief Justice probe. In the video, Sory was seated with Kotei Dzani, a former Council of State member. They were talking and eating together at a table.
Justice Asiedu did not notice Sory until Justice Kulendi alerted him. After a brief conversation, they went back to their own activities. No discussion about the petition took place during this encounter.
The video also shows that Justice Pwamang was not present at the restaurant, contrary to claims made by the petitioner. Alfred Ababio Kumi, a Ghanaian citizen, had petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to dissolve the committee investigating suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Kumi alleged that committee members undermine the integrity of the inquiry. He claimed there was a meeting on May 15 at Santoku Restaurant involving Justices Pwamang and Asiedu along with Thaddeus Sory and Justice Kulendi. Kumi stated they were overheard discussing matters related to the petition.
In his petition, Kumi argued that this meeting damaged public confidence in the process. He noted that Justice Pwamang is interested in becoming Chief Justice after Mahama's election. He also mentioned that Justice Adibu-Asiedu has lobbied for the same position after Justice Anin Yeboah's exit.
Kumi called the entire process a potential sham and urged President Mahama to act to protect its credibility. In response, Thaddeus Sory posted on Facebook denying any such meeting occurred. He stated it is easy to fact-check these claims.
Sory described allegations as "a monstrous lie" and emphasized transparency in justice processes. The probe began on May 15, 2025, 24 days after Torkornoo’s suspension pending investigations.
Meanwhile, suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court against her removal probe. On May 21, she requested an injunction to stop all proceedings of the committee and remove Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu from it.
She seeks to quash her suspension issued by President Mahama as well.
