A video has emerged showing a two-storey building being demolished.
The video went viral on social media. It shows day two of the demolition at the Lashibi Ramsar Site. The Accra Regional Coordinating Council is leading this effort. An excavator was seen destroying the building.
On May 27, 2025, Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo oversaw the demolition. She was joined by the Tema Mayor and a special task force. They targeted structures built on the Sakumo Ramsar Site.
This demolition follows President John Mahama's order to remove illegal developments. These developments have encroached on protected wetlands that are ecologically sensitive. Authorities say this exercise is necessary for environmental sustainability.
During the demolition, property developer McDonald Owusu pleaded for his project to be spared. He was seen on his knees asking Minister Ocloo and other officials for mercy. Despite his pleas, security personnel escorted him away from the scene.
Many Ghanaians reacted to the video online. One user questioned how officials allowed such sales in protected areas. Another expressed sadness over watching money go to waste but acknowledged its necessity.
A third commenter empathized with the builder's loss, noting how painful it is to see such destruction.
