Watch suspended CJ Torkornoo exits the Supreme Court after a 5-0 ruling against her injunction

A video has emerged showing suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo. She was leaving the Supreme Court after her injunction application was dismissed. This decision was unanimous, made by a five-member panel of justices. The panel was chaired by Acting Chief Justice Baffoe Bonnie.

The Supreme Court struck out the injunction application filed by Torkornoo. She aimed to stop the Pwamang Committee from hearing three petitions for her removal.

On May 28, 2025, the five-member panel dismissed her application unanimously. The panel included Justices Omoro Amadu Tanko, Yonny Kulendi, Henry Kwofie, and Richard Adjei Frimpong.

In her affidavit, Torkornoo alleged inhumane treatment that violated her dignity. She described the ongoing proceedings as a “mockery of justice” and a “ruse” to remove her unjustly.

The apex court ruled that her affidavit referred to events before the committee's investigation. These proceedings are expected to be held in camera by law.

Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem Sai objected to the affidavit's contents. He argued it violated Article 146(8) of the Constitution regarding private proceedings for removing justices.

Justice Srem Sai emphasized that disclosing aspects of deliberations breached constitutional requirements. Godfred Yeboah, former Attorney General and Torkornoo’s legal counsel, claimed the affidavit was submitted privately.

However, the Supreme Court found that the affidavit violated secrecy provisions under the Constitution. Consequently, they dismissed the injunction application.
