We'll maintain zero tolerance for drug trafficking in Ghana – Mahama - Channel1 News

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered an investigation into drug trafficking and money laundering. This involves two suspicious flights that landed at Kotoka International Airport. He stressed that Ghana will not be a transit point for illegal drugs.

The allegations were made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, a Member of Parliament. He raised concerns during a press conference on April 1, 2025.

Rev. Fordjour reported that an AirMed flight, meant for patient transport, arrived in Ghana on March 20, 2025. The flight stayed for five days but did not transport any patients. Intelligence suggests it carried suspicious cargo, possibly cocaine and cash.

Another aircraft, the Cavok Air Antonov private jet, arrived on March 12, 2025. It remained in Ghana for 13 days before leaving for Gran Canaria, known for drug trafficking.

In response to these allegations, President Mahama emphasized his government’s commitment to transparency and security. He stated that all allegations would be taken seriously.

To ensure a thorough investigation, he directed relevant agencies to collaborate with Rev. Fordjour. These agencies include the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Police CID, National Investigations Bureau (NIB), and National Security Coordinator.

The president assured the public that the government will uphold national security and combat illicit activities. He urged investigative agencies to act quickly to uncover any wrongdoing related to these flights.

The Minority is demanding full disclosure regarding the aircraft allegedly carrying cocaine and cash.
