We are all in trouble– Anane-Gyinde warns against undermining judiciary

Kwaku Anane-Gyinde, a lawyer and lecturer at GIMPA Law School, has issued a warning. He cautioned against politicising judicial matters. This comes after petitions seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, he stressed that discrediting the judiciary is dangerous. It could harm the country’s democratic framework.

He said, “If we undermine institutions like the judiciary, we are all in trouble.” He acknowledged that disagreements with court decisions happen but emphasized this is part of democracy.

Anane-Gyinde urged people to focus on the law instead of politics. He questioned why serious petitions have not been made public. “Who are the petitioners? What are their allegations?” he asked, highlighting the need for transparency.

He also pointed out that legal scrutiny is vital for developing the judicial system. However, he criticized politicians for their handling of this issue. “Legal challenges help us develop our jurisprudence,” he noted.

His comments come amid ongoing debate over petitions against the Chief Justice. Some argue for confidentiality until a formal decision is reached. Others believe full disclosure serves the public interest.

As tensions rise over this matter, calls for an independent and fair judicial process remain central to discussions.
