Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is the National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP). He stated that the government’s dumsor levy requires sacrifices from Ghanaians. This is necessary to keep power on.
He warned that rejecting the dumsor levy could lead to nationwide outages. Vanderpuye spoke on Channel One TV about recent fuel price drops. He noted that prices fell from 16 to under 12 cedis.
Now is the time for Ghanaians to contribute, he said. A small sacrifice, like one cedi, can help maintain power supply. If we ignore this need, we may face dumsor again soon.
President John Dramani Mahama addressed concerns about fuel prices. He assured that the energy sector levy would not increase them. Mahama described the ₵1 dumsor levy as a tough but necessary choice.
He emphasized that Ghana must leverage recent currency gains. This will help solve our energy sector challenges more quickly. During a presentation at Jubilee House, he acknowledged the difficulty of this decision but deemed it justifiable.
