We are determined to solve ‘dumsor’ once and for all – Mahama as he assent to ‘Dumsor Levy’

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to resolve the energy sector crisis. He believes that energy sector debt has hindered economic growth for years.

Mahama stated that the Energy Sector Levy aims to eliminate this debt. This will help stop the ongoing crisis in the energy sector.

He wants to create an energy system with lower tariffs and better service for Ghanaians. On June 5, 2025, he discussed the Energy Sector Levy Amendment Act 2025.

He noted that previous attempts have been made to address this issue. Today marks the signing of the Energy Sector Levy Amendment Act.

Mahama emphasized his commitment to solving this crisis once and for all. He mentioned recent improvements in Ghana's economy as a hopeful sign.

The D-Levy is a temporary measure, he explained. It aims to resolve power sector issues while relieving Ghanaians of financial burdens.

He acknowledged a drop in petroleum prices and thanked transport unions for their cooperation. This reduction has allowed savings that can help pay down energy sector debt.

Mahama pointed out that fuel costs are not included in current tariffs. If they were, tariffs could rise by 50%.

He stressed that maintaining macroeconomic stability is crucial for Ghana’s future. The energy sector must not destabilize the economy, he concluded.
