Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a veteran journalist and Managing Editor of The Insight Newspaper, criticized former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Pratt believes Ghanaians are tired of Bawumia's lectures. He pointed out that under Bawumia, the cedi's value fell from 3.40 to 16 cedis per dollar.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Pratt questioned Bawumia's credibility. He said, “Under his watch, the cedi dropped to 17 cedis per dollar. What right does he have to lecture us?”
Pratt expressed disbelief at Bawumia’s claims about managing the cedi’s value. He stated that after eight years in power, Bawumia should stop lecturing Ghanaians.
Bawumia recently claimed the US dollar is declining globally. He argued that the NDC deserves no credit for recent gains in the cedi.
During an event with the Young Executive Forum in London, he explained that the NDC had not implemented any policies affecting currency stability yet.
Bawumia also discussed gold's impact on Ghana's economy. He noted that Ghana is Africa's largest gold producer and highlighted its importance for currency confidence.
He compared Ghana’s gold reserves to those of other countries like the US and UK. According to him, exporting cocoa or timber requires more effort than mining gold.
In conclusion, Kwesi Pratt challenged Bawumia’s authority to speak on economic issues given his past performance as Vice President.
