Minister Samuel Nartey George, known as Sam George, announced that 57 radio stations may lose their frequencies. This is due to non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
He clarified that the suspension is not a revocation. It gives these stations a chance to fix their issues before resuming operations.
“There are six stations in the first phase,” he said. “They are part of about 63 total stations facing suspension.”
“We cannot allow media houses to ignore regulations,” he added. He emphasized that press freedoms do not exempt them from meeting license conditions.
The process aims to help media organizations correct their infractions. “I will suspend the licenses but offer them a chance to remedy their cases,” he explained.
Of the six affected stations, three have submitted required documentation. These documents are necessary for restoring their frequencies. He stated he would authorize the restoration for those three stations.
