The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is in financial turmoil, unable to release the 2024 WASSCE results due to a GH₵25 million debt owed to technicians who maintain essential equipment.
These technicians have halted services, affecting the scanning of objective answers required for marking.
WAEC’s ongoing financial struggles stem from delays in government funding, particularly related to the Free Senior High School policy, which absorbs exam fees for public students but often releases funds late.
The Minority in Parliament has raised alarms, demanding that the Finance and Education Ministers address the crisis.
WAEC has urged the government to release the funds or consider shifting the responsibility of paying exam fees to parents to ensure timely processing in future exams.
