South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has opposed calls to halt the vetting of ministerial nominees following bribery allegations against Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
The controversy arose from claims by activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor, alleging that committee members demanded money from nominees in exchange for approval.
Minority Chief Whip Frank Annor Dompreh urged an immediate suspension of the vetting process, particularly for Defence Minister-designate Dr. Omane Boamah.
Addressing the issue, Mr. Dafeamekpor acknowledged the impact of the allegations on the committee’s reputation but argued that suspending the vetting process would undermine government operations.
Appointments Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor has dismissed the claims as baseless, asserting that no member engaged in such practices. Barker-Vormawor has been summoned to substantiate his allegations on Wednesday, January 29.
