We demand complete overhaul of wage structure - TUC

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called for a major change in Ghana’s wage structure. They describe the current system as “unfit for purpose” and unfair.

The TUC demands that the government implement significant reforms. These reforms should improve pay and working conditions in Ghana.

Mr. Joshua Ansah, the TUC Secretary-General, spoke to thousands of workers at Independence Square in Accra. He emphasized, “We are workers first, not politicians.” He added, “In unity we find our true power. Collective voice is collective power.”

He highlighted that the minimum wage is only $1.28 for eight hours of work. Many workers earn even less than this amount. Meanwhile, chief executives of state entities receive rent allowances three times higher than top public servants' salaries.
