Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President, spoke about the NPP's defeat. He is also the 2024 flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During a Thank You tour in Takoradi, he addressed party members. Bawumia acknowledged mistakes that led to their loss in the December 7 elections.
He said, “We refused to listen.” He highlighted key issues like cost of living and arrogance of power. The debt restructuring program also contributed to their downfall.
Bawumia mentioned that party advice was ignored. They suggested reshuffling ministerial portfolios but were not heard. He noted that they also advised against implementing the e-levy.
Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, a former MP and presidential aspirant, spoke next. He emphasized the need for unity within the party. Without unity, he warned that recapturing power would be impossible.
Agyapong quoted scriptures to support his message. He referenced Mark 3:25 and Matthew 11:17-18, stating, “A house that is divided against itself will not stand.”
He urged NPP’s National Executives to grant amnesty to those who left or were dismissed from the party. Agyapong believes bringing them back is vital for rebuilding.
He also apologized to Ghanaians for any wrongdoings by the NPP during their eight years in power.
