Youth from Tema have gathered at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly. They demand that President John Dramani Mahama appoint a local as the next Mayor of Tema.
The protestors expressed their concerns by burning car tyres and beating drums. This action sends a strong message to authorities. Their agitation follows reports that Ebi Bright may be considered for the position.
Previously, Patience Ankamah Addo was seen as the frontrunner for mayor. Dora Sappor, a concerned youth from Tema, spoke to the media about their rejection of Ebi Bright’s appointment.
She said, “We are here with a heavy heart to register our displeasure. We hear that Ebi Bright is to be made Mayor of Tema, but that cannot happen.”
Sappor questioned why Ebi Bright is being considered when she was not part of the process. “This is something we will not understand,” she added.
“This is the only demand of the youth of Tema East and traditional leaders,” she concluded.
