We don’t want Ebi Bright – Tema Youth protest over Mayor appointment

Tensions are high in the Tema Metropolis. Youth groups protested at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly. They oppose reports that Ebi Bright may become Mayor.

The demonstrators included concerned youth and community members from Tema East. They chanted slogans, beat drums, and burned tyres to express their disapproval. They demand President John Dramani Mahama appoint a local candidate instead.

They believe Patience Ankamah Addo is the rightful choice. She was involved in the consultation process and has strong support from grassroots and traditional leaders.

Dora Sappor, a protest leader, expressed their concerns. “We are here with a heavy heart,” she said. “Ebi Bright should not be made Mayor; she wasn’t part of the process.”

She emphasized that their protest is not politically motivated. It reflects the community’s demand for fair representation and respect for due process.

The youth of Tema East want their voices heard, along with traditional leaders. The protest follows rumors about Ebi Bright's potential nomination as Mayor. She is known within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

No official confirmation has come from the presidency or NDC leadership about the nominee for Mayor of Tema. The youth warn they will resist any appointment seen as imposed or externally driven.

Traditional leaders have also raised concerns about this issue. They plan to discuss it with party executives and government officials to prevent unrest.

The protest remained mostly peaceful, though burning tyres disrupted traffic briefly near assembly offices. Local police monitored the situation to keep it under control.
