Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah is a member of the NPP Communications Team. He claimed that the party has hidden former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta. He made this statement to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Gyewu-Appiah said the NDC must provide Sedina Christine Attionu Tamakloe. She is the former CEO of MASLOC. Only then will the NPP provide Ken Ofori-Atta.
In April 2024, a High Court issued an arrest warrant for Tamakloe. She was tried in absentia after leaving for medical treatment abroad.
Gyewu-Appiah stated that Ofori-Atta will not appear if Tamakloe remains at large. He spoke on Atinka TV, saying they have hidden Ofori-Atta in a room. He suggested an exchange: if the NDC brings Tamakloe, they will provide Ofori-Atta.
He criticized the NDC, saying they are not smarter than anyone else. Gyewu-Appiah also told the Special Prosecutor to "order some sense." He claimed that money is wasted on investigations without results.
His comments followed the OSP's rejection of Ofori-Atta’s request for a virtual session. Kissi Agyebeng, head of the OSP, insisted that he must appear physically.
Agyebeng stated that they have always requested his attendance and would not waive it. He emphasized that suspects cannot dictate how investigations are conducted.
The Special Prosecutor announced plans to issue an INTERPOL red notice for Ofori-Atta. This could lead to international arrest and extradition.
Agyebeng revealed he initiated this process shortly before his announcement. The OSP accuses Ofori-Atta of causing financial loss to the state through various dealings.
These include projects like the National Cathedral and contracts with GRA and ECG.
