We have learnt lessons from our mistake – Dr Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president, is the NPP's presidential candidate for 2024. He stated that the NPP has learned from its mistakes.

Bawumia acknowledged that the party did significant work in governance. However, he admitted they also made notable errors. He emphasized that the NPP is committed to improving if given another chance.

Speaking in London, Bawumia said, “The NPP did a lot of work, but we did not get everything right.” He apologized on behalf of himself and the party for their shortcomings. He believes they will do better if given another opportunity.

Bawumia announced that the NPP plans to elect its 2028 presidential candidate by January next year. He noted that electing their 2024 candidate in November gave John Mahama an advantage. Mahama had already been campaigning across the country as the NDC candidate.

He explained that there was little time for reconciliation after their internal elections due to fallout in many constituencies. Bawumia said, “We elected our presidential candidate a bit late.” This delay meant they had to rush into campaigning while Mahama was already ahead.

Now, he stated they are working on a proposal to complete all elections by January at the latest. This plan aims to give them three years to prepare for the 2028 elections and allow time for reconciliation within the party.
