Caterers in the Ghana School Feeding Programme are upset. They are concerned about their contracts being abruptly terminated by the Mahama administration. They cite poor communication and a lack of due process.
On May 2, 2025, the programme announced the termination of all caterer contracts. However, many caterers received no formal notification. They only learned about it through social media.
Margaret Larbi is the Deputy Public Relations Officer for the National School Feeding Caterers Association. She spoke on Eyewitness News with Sammi Wiafe. She said, “We heard of it on social media; there was no letter given to us.”
Larbi mentioned that they have submitted petitions to Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection. They are currently waiting for a response.
She expressed concern over financial losses faced by caterers. Many had already purchased food supplies for the school term. The termination happened before their contracts were set to expire on August 25, 2025.
Larbi questioned why they were not informed earlier about contract cancellations. She stated, “What I have purchased, what am I going to do with it?”
She urged the government to reconsider its decision. Allowing caterers to complete their contracts could help avoid further economic hardship.
