Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, has unveiled plans for a revamped SIM card registration process, aimed at resolving the issues faced during the previous exercise.
The 2022 re-registration required cardholders to visit various Network Mobile Operators (MNO) offices to link SIM cards with Ghana Cards, causing long queues and inefficiencies.
During his vetting, George criticized the previous government’s approach, calling it impractical and harmful to productivity.
He assured Parliament that the new process would leverage technology and cross-reference data with the National Identification Authority (NIA) database to eliminate long queues.
Only cases of discrepancies will require physical visits to MNO offices, aiming for a smoother and more efficient exercise.
