We’ll expand frontiers of tourism in Cape Coast -New Mayor assures

Mr. George Justice Arthur

Mr. George Justice Arthur is the new Metropolitan Chief Executive of Cape Coast. He prioritizes expanding tourism in the city.

He plans to develop various tourism sites to modern standards. This will improve Cape Coast’s image as a tourist destination. It will also generate funds for local development and create opportunities for residents.

Arthur shared his vision during his first media engagement. He aims to transform Cape Coast into a thriving, sustainable coastal city.

He highlighted historic sites like Cape Coast Castle and local beaches as tourism potentials. These could become significant income sources for the city.

To enhance tourism, he announced plans for a world-class tourist information center. The Assembly will map all tourist attractions and host them on a website. This site will be accessible to both local and international tourists.

Arthur assured that he would partner with traditional authorities for annual cultural festivals. These events will celebrate the city's heritage and attract more visitors.

He also mentioned other priorities, including education, health, economic development, and agriculture. Sports, security, revenue mobilization, public interaction, and creative arts are also important areas of focus.

Education

Arthur expressed concern about education in Cape Coast. Despite its reputation for quality education, local children struggle to enter elite schools.

He acknowledged that this issue has multiple causes but promised solutions. Under his leadership, programs will strengthen basic schools in the area.

He aims to expand ICT training to bridge the digital divide in education. The Assembly will collaborate with local MPs to provide scholarships for needy students.

Health

In health care, Arthur plans to renovate existing facilities like Metro Hospital at Bakaano. He wants these upgrades to meet metropolitan standards.

The Assembly will work with the Health Department to operationalize CHPS compounds for community outreach services. This effort aims to improve primary and preventive healthcare in the city.

Additionally, they will explore establishing a pediatric facility for children's health needs.
