‘We’ll reduce fares if fuel drops to ¢12 per litre’ -GPRTU assures commuters

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has assured commuters that transport fares will be reduced if fuel prices fall to around ¢12 per litre.

Speaking on Joy News on March 18, Deputy PRO Samuel Amoah explained that despite the recent dip in fuel prices, it is not yet significant enough to trigger a fare reduction.

Amoah noted that fare adjustments depend on multiple factors, including the cost of spare parts, lubricants, insurance, and taxes.

He recalled that during the last fare increase, fuel prices were around ¢12 per litre, whereas current prices remain above ¢14.

While the union remains open to fare reductions, he cautioned that high spare part costs could delay any changes even if fuel prices drop.
