The Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Sulemana Yusif, has called for support against illegal mining.
He emphasized that the government cannot fight this issue alone. Support is needed from chiefs, community leaders, NGOs, academia, media, and development partners.
Mr. Yusif spoke at the Ghana National Landscape Forum in Accra yesterday. He mentioned that his office is enhancing stakeholder engagement. They are collaborating with communities and traditional leaders to promote collective ownership in the fight against illegal mining.
He warned that Ghana’s forests, minerals, and water bodies are under threat. Deforestation, degradation, pollution, and climate change endanger our ecosystems and livelihoods.
