Andy Appiah-Kubi is the lawyer for Bernard Antwi Boasiako. He is commonly known as Chairman Wontumi. Appiah-Kubi said they pray for Wontumi's freedom today.
Wontumi was arrested by EOCO after visiting the CID headquarters. This visit occurred on May 27, 2025. He was granted bail of GH₵50 million with two sureties on May 28. However, his legal team had not met all bail conditions by Wednesday.
On June 1, Andy Appiah-Kubi told JOY News, “We pray to God that Wontumi is free tomorrow.” In an interview with Oyerepa TV/FM, he stated that Wontumi's arrest was lawful. He explained that EOCO acted correctly in this situation.
Appiah-Kubi noted that there was an arrest warrant for Wontumi. He emphasized that if there is a problem, it lies within the law itself. According to him, EOCO has similar powers to the police under the EOCO Act.
He added that warrants should be issued by a court, not by EOCO directly. This means the justification for issuing a warrant would be determined in court. Since Wontumi was arrested under warrant, the 48-hour rule does not apply here.
