Three years after road toll collections were halted, former toll workers are criticizing the government for failing to deliver on promises of alternative jobs and interim allowances.
The abrupt termination in November 2021, after the 2022 Budget presentation, left about 800 workers unemployed.
The government, represented by then-Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako-Atta, assured workers of reassignment and financial support.
However, Edward Duncan, General Secretary of the Ghana Toll Workers Union, expressed disappointment, stating that none of these promises had been honored.
“The government has let us down. They promised alternative livelihoods and monthly payments, but nothing has been fulfilled,” Duncan said, dismissing claims that workers have been compensated or settled.
The workers remain in limbo, calling for immediate action.
