Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin says the Minority in Parliament supports accountability. This follows the National Intelligence Bureau's (NIB) attempt to question Rev Ntim Fordjour, the Assin South MP.
Afenyo-Markin believes the government must respect due process. He expressed his views during an interview on Joy FM's Middaynews on April 10.
He is concerned about how some party members are treated. Accountability should not come at the cost of fairness and justice.
The Minority Leader noted that many members face persecution disguised as accountability. "We are not against accountability," he said, "but due process must be followed."
He condemned intimidation or threats against those who speak out on national issues. Such actions are unacceptable in a democracy.
The Minority Leader warned against vindictive politics. He cautioned that Ghana’s democracy should not regress to past military repression.
He urged President John Dramani Mahama to control elements within his government. These individuals, he believes, undermine democratic principles.
"I want to call on His Excellency the President to rein in these hawks," he added. "We don’t need them."
