Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor has responded to recent criticism. Some suggested his comments before Parliament were just grumbling. He insists his remarks reflect transparent leadership and a focus on solutions.
“I understand grumbling very well,” he said on the Citi Breakfast Show. “Presenting facts in a committee is not grumbling.” He believes it would be wrong to hide the truth as a minister.
Jinapor spoke after appearing before a parliamentary committee. There, he discussed the power sector's challenges and efforts to stabilize supply. Some interpreted his presentation as merely complaining about current issues.
However, he emphasized that acknowledging facts is part of good governance. “Karpowership threatened to shut down, but we resolved that issue,” he explained. “That’s not grumbling; it’s problem-solving.”
He detailed fuel stock levels and new energy infrastructure developments. Jinapor also mentioned ongoing work on gas processing and ECG reforms. He argued that transparency should not be seen as weakness.
“We are not in crisis; we are doing fairly well,” he stated. “Yes, we have challenges, but we were elected to solve them.” He rejected any narrative suggesting the energy ministry is overwhelmed or reactive.
